Bus Driver - City of Columbia, Missouri (Public Works Department)Starting Pay: $20.64 - $21.06 per hour (depending on training and experience)
Plus: $1.00/hour shift differential for all hours worked between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM
Schedule: Full-time, minimum 40 hours per week (8-hour or split shifts available)

Job Summary
Bus Drivers safely operate City buses and vans along fixed routes and schedules, providing courteous service to passengers and ensuring compliance with traffic and safety regulations. This position requires professionalism, dependability, and a commitment to serving the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate transit buses and vans along assigned routes and schedules in all weather conditions.
- Provide excellent customer service and assist passengers as needed.
- Collect fares, handle and balance cash, and prepare required reports.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of assigned vehicle.
- Follow all Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and City safety policies.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of related driving or transportation experience.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement and no airbrake restriction.
- Current DOT medical certification.
Preferred:
- Previous public transit or passenger transportation experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of local traffic laws, safe driving practices, and assigned routes.
- Ability to manage stressful or challenging customer interactions with professionalism.
- Skill in operating fleet vehicles and related equipment.
- Ability to count money, make change, and complete basic written reports.
- Commitment to safety and maintaining a constant state of alertness.
- Work performed in vehicles and outdoor environments with exposure to traffic, weather, and noise.
- Occasional lifting up to 35 pounds; frequent movement and vehicle operation required.
- May encounter hostile or irate individuals and must remain calm and professional.
- Varied shifts, including afternoons and Saturdays.
- Opportunities for overtime based on department needs.
